hi everyone to the forum, i am only new to this so excuse the spelling mistakes or lack of knowledge etc.
Anyway, being around skating for a while, one gets the impression that ISA can't make there mind up whom will fill the TBA spot for 4 Continents, and deciding to use Summer trophy as a sort of skate off between Robert M and Sean C. I thought and I know that ISA have a criteria for selection, so why is this happening???
I know Sean hasn't skated for a while due to injury and Roberts mark in international comps wasn't the best, so do we really need to send another skater if they are not in form?
This only makes it very hard for the skater whom is selected into this TBA spot to make final arrangements to get to Vancouver a week later, and also undermines the whole reason for a criteria in the first place.
Any comments?? |

Have any of our boys had great marks in international comps this past year?
Maybe they are looking for some experience, proven past results?? _________________ Oz_Sk8_Mum

hi oz-sk8-mum, yer well i think that as far as the boys, it is very hard to compete at the level to get the marks to be competitive. the girls is different, the highest mark is around the 150 marks so if our girls can get arround 110->115 they will do ok, while the boys is well over 200.
None of our boys are in that league and will never be unless they live overseas for like 5 years and commit to full time training, and lets face it who has that kind of money. the same can be said for pairs and dance.
So as far as the statement that ISA maybe looking for experience for the boys probably doesn't matter.
I too would like to know how the selected skaters are going.....any comments???? hope there will be a internet feed?? |

Greg and Danielle leave tomorrow for Canada where they will be training for a couple of weeks before 4CC. They look great and I wish them all the best
Also looks like 4CC will be aired on Icenetwork _________________ Oz_Sk8_Mum

So who is going to be the third men's skater for 4CC seeing that Sean has W/D from the Summer trophy, is Robert going ? or will we only have 2 representatives???
As per the ISA criteria Robert had qualified by doing International competitions, even though his marks weren't great he still qualified, and then ISA decided to have a skate off between Sean & Robert.
I thought that this summer trophy was a decider for the third spot??
any comments???? |

| As you may know by now...Sean withdrew from Summer Trophy. I heard...still hasn't recovered from his surgery. I wonder what position this puts him in for Worlds???? I'm sure a loophole will be found in the policy and Sean will somehow get Worlds. He would probably do a better than Nicholas or Mark. Sean has always done better than Nicholas and Mark in competition whether at home or internationally. Worlds nominations will be interesting!!! |

Policy is Policy, and it says (abbreviated) :- the highest placed skater at 4CC will be selected to go the World championships as long as the mark is above 90 and is 85% of the score obtained at nationals,
If they don't get to skate free at 4CC them aggregate marks will be totalised, from Nationals, 4CC and another international, as long as above 90.
Why would you send a skater whom withdraws with injury from a competition here, and has not skated any competitions this season and hopefully be better in approx 6 weeks, makes no sense.
btw, Sean has not competed against Nick or Mark this season and I have been told that they are both training very hard. |

All the kids train hard, but can they pull it together for the comp? So far the younger boys don't seem to be able to, but maybe thats a maturity thing.
It's a shame for Sean, but he is giving his injury the time it needs to heal properly _________________ Oz_Sk8_Mum

Well it's monitoring time!! Skated at Canterbury the other day and saw Nicholas Fernandes being monitored by Wendy ?? He seems to be in good form....fit and looking well which is good as lack of fitness was a problem in the past. Saw his long prog and he looked ok.
Jessica K was monitored that morning by someone from ISA and Debbie I think. She has LOVELY spins and spirals! She had a recent coach change to Andre Pachin so a change of technique on the jumps so close to a major comp....I don't know...but she WILL shine on her spins, spiral and artistry. What an opportunity for her this year...she is also looking pretty fit!
Chelsea was monitored this morning. I think it was the long prog my daughter told me?? She looks fit, the jumps are magnificent! She's improved, faster looks more mature, still quite powerful in her skating. I think she'll do really well. Although I heard she is still nursing the back injury that took her off the ice for months but gheeee she works hard!!!
I think NSW has a pretty good team that will do their best to represent us well. Good luck to them ALL!!!
ANY OTHER REPORTS???? Tina??? Robert??? |

hi, by the login author name you probably have worked out my name is John Webster, marks father.
Just a little run down to let you know what Marks been up too, as he too will be representing at four continents.
Mark has been training in Barrie Ontario, Canada for most of 2008, Feb till July and then from October till Febuary 2009.
He has been training at Mariposa National Training facility, with Doug leigh, Robert Tebby and Lee Barkell ( Jeffery Buttle's Coach).
He has been training extremely hard and is hoping to gain personal bests and CLEAN skates in each program.
He too has had a few injuries over there, i think no figure skater cannot continually skate without some sort of injury, but it is on the mend. All triple jumps are big fast and strong and he feels that he is skating the best he ever has.
He is looking forward to meeting the rest of the team in Vancouver and hear a few Australian accents, and to do his best representing Australia. |

Thanks for the reports about Jessica K Isk8junkie. She is a lovely skater and lovely girl. I keep in touch with her and her father. They have come to Olympic Trophy the last couple of years and it is always a pleasure to have her skate at our rink and to be able to judge her.
Welcome John - nice to have a parent of one of our elite skaters come and join the forum and let us know how they are going. |

Hey I might have teed up someone in Canada to send me the coverage of 4CC. One of the stations is showing the whole event so hopefully I can get all the Aussie Skaters.
It will be a few weeks before I get it but as soon as I do I will let you know.
So in the meantime if you are interested let me know. |

I to would like to wish all the Aussies the best for 4 CC's
Cheltzie left today, she looks fit and strong. I saw her do one of her programs a couple of mornings back and she did a clean program including her triples she looks great. I also saw Nick the other day and he also looks fit, I didn't see his program but the rink was so busy it would have been hard to navigate anyway.I also spoke with Danielle's mum and she said they are training hard and enjoying the time over there before the comp.
Have you all noticed that the other countries are all sending the top skaters this year, what a great experience for our youngsters!!
Anyway Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!!
4CC's is also broadcast on Icenetwork. _________________ Oz_Sk8_Mum

I too noticed that countries are sending their best!! Maybe for the experience as the 2010 Olympics will be in Vancouver. As I'm a major Chelsea fan I hope she competes well. She's only young competing at such a HUGH event with so much media AND competing against skater she probably grew up watching on TV....mmm I don't know .
I think our skaters aren't use to such big crowds BUT on the other hand they have ALL improved and are skating well. So bring on those PB'S I say!!!!
