Just throwing an idea out there for people to think about.

What would people think about having another National event like Hollins?

With the moving of Nationals to December, there could be a possibility of a similar event somewhere between Hollins and Nationals. Of course the states will be having their state championships so that would be taken into account.

But it would certainly be a useful event on the National calendar for skaters to skate under IJS and get good competitive experience. And now that we will have the National Ice Sports Centre the event could be held there.

The main problem will be getting officials though as they already take plenty of time off work to cover the current events and I am not sure how much more they could handle.

Anyway I would be interested in canvassing this idea and seeing what people think.

BTW - I have also heard that some events maybe shifting the time of the year they are on. Like Reg Park might be held earlier in the year. Does anyone know any more about any changes to major events?

Last night NSW had its planning meeting for next year.

The NSW calendar is chock a block. Some of our NSW Clubs have combined to reduce the number of comps held in NSW, our Judges are too streched as it is..

In NSW we have Hollins, MJS Trophy, PIP Trophy, Trophy Night.

Club Championships -
Sydney Figure and Liverpool Combined
Penrith and Norwest Combined
Macquarie
Hunter combined with MJS
Central Coast
AND
State Championships

QLD has Summer Trophy which is kind of a National event .. when will that be held now?

I don't know that our calendar can support another large comp due to lack of Judges, transport of the IJS and a big factor is cost, who can afford to travel so many times a year? Also it was pointed out to us last night that we lose judges and Tech specalists at that time of the year to attend International JGP's and other O/S events.

I don't know, It would depend when it was held but between Hollins and Nationals NSW is packed.

The issue of judges is a big one. With Docklands opening next year we are going to have to work out a way to run competitions but also get enough judges. It may mean calling on Senior skaters to do the Aussie Skate events and the more qualified judges taking on the higher level events.

But we definately need more judges in Australia generally. At the moment some of the judges are heavily involved in the administration side of the sport and this is putting pressure on them timewise.

I am standing down from Secretary of the club as I already know I am going to be busy next year (including my judging duties) and someone else can take on this role. But it is a problem when there are only a few people doing all the work.
